200L Drum
A 200L chemical drum isn’t very interesting – or is it?
A substantial client within the chemical industry supplies various major vehicle dealerships across Europe with cleaning and conditioning chemicals for preparation of new and used cars.Part of their range is supplied in 200L plastic drums – plain plastic drums – to which they affixed a simple label identifying the product.
The far-sighted MD listened to us when we suggested investigating the possibility of printing the surface of the drum to create visual impact. After a chat with the drum supplier we discovered their machinery was capable of printing on a whole drum – it’s just no one ever asked them before.
This was our cue.
We produced several alternatives with company branding, tested them for visual impact by putting them on various sites around the country and gauged the reactions of users and onlookers.
A design was chosen, the artwork produced in liaison with the manufacturers – who were as excited as we were (and whose machinery we pushed to the limit). The first production batch was delivered to our client . It’s an impressive sight,10,000 sqft of warehouse stacked to the eaves with 200L printed drums.
As the weeks passed and product began to be distributed in the new packaging we started to notice the drums everywhere. It was just like when you try and choose a new car – you cannot see one for love nor money, but when you get it – you notice hundreds.
The project was so successful the client commissioned a new 200 litre “graphic” drum that he now sells, empty, for mixing of product on site.
